Spring Loaded Computer Case Handles
Did consumers really want a case that looked like a Klennex box? Over the last ten years several case manufacturers have attempted to capture the gaming & modding sector of the hardware market. I searched my memory archives to recall those misguided, strange and unsuccessful cases from Asia.
I saw my first Cbox in 2001, Robert Jacobsson posted his CboxIII HTPC in the VH Case Gallery. At first glance, I thought it was a vintage radio. After that, nothing else in that gallery matter anymore. His HTPC designs left everyone in the dust. They were both retro and futuristic.

In 2006 I met Robert online and he told me how he got started.
I started making custom cases together with a friend, Martin Erixon, back in 1999. The reason was that it was impossible to find any good, clean cases that would fit a livingroom. So we made our first HTPC, CBox1 and just continued with all the others. After awhile “modded” cases started to appear around the internet - but very few were anything new - just add-ons, sort of. Still big, tacky cases with poor cooling capabilities. Not much has changed since. Maybe we could blame the ATX standard for that.

Since it was fun to make cases, we continued. Nowadays it’s just me doing it, but it’s still fun. One important thing about them is that they are all quiet, at least they are made for being quiet, by providing good airflow and such. They are also quite easy to build, since anybody can have some aluminum laser cut. They are also meant to be stylish. Some people like it, others don’t , but still they look different. I also try to keep them small, not like standard ATX cases that just contain air.
This is just a hobby. At my daytime I work for a car manufacturer in Sweden. I get to do 3D simulations and modeling. So maybe the difference isn’t that big to what I do at home then. I design everything in 3D Studio VIZ, and make the cuttings in Autosketch.
I will continue to do this as long as I can come up with something different. The response I get from all over the world is amazing, and thats the fuel I need.

I recently met Frenkie Janse (aka FrenkieNL) through his comments on my videos. He shared some great feedback that prompted me to check out his work. Besides his creative talent, what impressed me the most was that Frenkie enjoys sharing his knowledge with other modders. He has a lot of experience with different materials and construction techniques. His creations have received several respected awards in the european mod community. This news broadcast from the Netherlands feaures Frenkie with his past and most current project. You can watch progress of Frenkie’s latest project “STING” in the mod brothers forum

It was no surprise that Peter Kani (aka Masterp) was able to get one of the first production Raven RV01 cases from Silverstone. His thorough and honest reviews have a dedicated following from PC enthusiasts. The Raven RVO1’s aggressive design is unlike anything Silverstone has done before. It also hosts a patented 90 degree motherboard mounting system.
